    Auvergne has a lot of family fun by the water to offer you when on a camping holiday. From the beautiful setting of the enormous Lake Chambon, set deep in the heart of the stunning scenery of the Auvergne Volcanic Regional Nature Park, to the popular summer holiday destinations of Lake Pareloup and Lake Selve. All lakes are perfect for Sailing, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, water skiing, rowing and swimming. Lake Sarrans is an anglers paradise and a great place to catch your dinner for back at the campsite. Lake Aydat is the largest lake in Auvergne and has wooded shores, a beautiful beach with excellent facilities and a water sports centre, for windsailing, catamarans, dinghies and pedalos. For a unique experience head for the natural park of the Tarn Gorges and go diving in its crystal clear waters. The rivers Tarn, Doubie, Lot and Allier also provide plenty of aquatic fun, especially for white water enthusiasts!

    There are lots of interesting places for a great day out when you are camping in Auvergne. Clermont-Ferrand is the region’s main city and has a fascinating medieval quarter. Stroll down its narrow streets past the black Gothic cathedral constructed from Volvic stone and admire the town’s hero Vercingetorix who defeated Caesar there in 52 BC. Visit the spa town of Vichy, famous for its healing waters and decorated with beautiful belle époque, Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings. Moulins was a place of real extravagance in the days of the Dukes of Bourbon. Follow in Coco Channel’s footsteps and sip coffee in the magnificent Art Nouveau surroundings of Le Grand Café, where she once used to sing. For a spectacular view head for the pilgrim town of Le Puy-en-Velay and climb the 268 steps to the remarkable 10th century Saint-Michel chapel perched high on a rocky pinnacle. Reward your efforts with a bottle of green Verveine, the local liquer speciality. The perfect complement to those lovely sunsets back at your campsite!

    Things to see and do near the campsite in Auvergne

    For some of Auvergne’s most stunning scenery head for Chaîne des Puys , the range of volcanic domes that run through this region. Admire the lakes, rivers and forest that run through the National Regional Park of the Volcanos and then visit the famous mineral spring waters in Volvic. For a great day out with the kids go to Vulcania, at the foot of the Puy de Lemplegy, just 26 kms (16 miles) west of Clermont-Ferrand. It’s a superb interactive theme park devoted to volcanoes, with dramatic 3D film of eruptions in the Auvergne. There’s even a Dragon Ride. For something truly spectacular, take the tourist Train through the Allier Gorges. It runs through the fabulous national park and snakes beside the Allier river. The picturesque village of Peyre will steal your heart. It is even on the list of the 'most beautiful villages of France'. Looking to really unwind? Then visit the spa resorts in Châtel-Guyon. Spoil yourself rotten and return to the campsite fully refreshed!
