Gironde has mile after mile of stunning stretches of unspoiled coastline close to your campsite, with beaches to suit all ages and interests. Families with young children head for the Bay Or Archachon, where an inlet ensures the seas are more tranquil. Looking for a lively resort with lots of bars and restaurants, then go to the bustling resorts of Soulac-sur-Mer or Montalivet. Alternatively, take a short ferry ride from Soulac-sur-Mer to the famous and popular resort of Royan and the Grande Conche or more intimate Pontaillac beach. For a more secluded, laid back and exceptionally chic experience visit Lège-Cap-Ferret, France’s Oyster capital. Get them fresh from the boat and eat them right by the water.

                City trip near your campsite in Gironde

                Bordeaux is the largest city not far from your campsite in Gironde. A visit to the Cité du Vin here is a must. This magnificent wine themed museum will teach you everything you need to know about your favourite vintage. Walk along the beautiful river front and don’t forget to visit the Grand Opera Theatre. Take your newly gained insights into wine to the lovely towns of Libourne and Bergerac. They are famous areas for wine growing, with charming old châteaux and excellent wine tasting tours. Stroll through Bergerac’s old town, past half-timbered buildings and head for the 17th century Cloître des Récollets which houses the Maison des Vins showcase of the region’s wine. Combine a day at the beach with some serious shopping and visit the lovely seaside resort of Royan with its bustling boulevard, shops and casino and the Belle Époque architecture.

                Things to see and do near the campsite in Gironde

                Gironde is a wine lover’s paradise. The famous vineyards of Margaux and Pauillac are not far from your campsite. The beautiful wine houses of Saint-Emilion and the Médoc are just 40km south east of Bordeaux and well worth a visit. For something truly spectacular take the kids to the enormous Dunes of Pilat. Let them run up to the top and then cool off in the sea below. For another great day out with the children take the short ferry ride from Soulac-sur-Mer and go to Royan zoo. Fancy some shopping in Gironde? Then head for the colourful open market of Montalivet. It has more than 200 stalls to choose from and is famous for its great local produce. For a classy lunch away from the campsite go to the chic seaside resort of Lège-Cap-Ferret. It’s renowned for having the best oysters in France.
