Camping by the beautiful Portuguese countryside. By the Natural Parks of the Peneda-Gerês, Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana, the Vale do Douro and Ria Formosa.

Portugal has some truly stunning nature to admire and most of it just a short drive from your campsite. The National Park of the Peneda-Gerês is home to the royal eagle and is 72.000 hectares of uniquely protected woodland and green lush hills. Ria Formosa is in the Algarve, but a world apart from the beach towels and busy beaches it’s famed for. This protected natural park is a 60km stretch of gorgeous coastline with a huge variety of wildlife. Parque Natural do Vale do Guadiana is famous for its Wild pigs that forage for acorns, under large holm oaks in the huge pine forest. The Douro valley is an incredible scenic region. Its lush green hills drop steeply down to the edge of the magnificent river Douro. Olive groves and rows of vines line the land around its banks and the pink-white blossoms of almond trees cover the area like a colourful blanket.

Cultural highlights near your campsite in Lisbon, Porto, Alentejo, Sintra , Coimbra and Conimbriga

Portugal has a fascinating rich, long history and is one of Europe’s most interesting cultural countries. See the Belem Tower in Lisbon and roam St George’s castle to get the perfect view of the city. Its Berardo museum has one of Europe's greatest modern art collections, with works by Warhol, Picasso, and Dali. Visit Porto’s magnificent museums, admire its fabulous architecture and gorgeous 13th century cathedral. Then drop into to its ancient, iconic wine cellars for a history lesson in wine making and of course a delicious wine tasting session. Wonder at the megalithic sites and dolmens in Alentejo, be charmed by the Palacio da Pena in Sintra, drop into the 13th century library in Coimbra and be amazed by the Roman ruins in Conimbriga.

Camping by the sea in Portugal

If beaches are an important part of your perfect camping holiday, then Portugal will make your wildest dreams come true. The Algarve region is famous for its stretches of pristine sands and gorgeous turquoise waters. Take your pick from over 150 beautiful beaches by bustling seaside towns such as Quarteira, Lagos or Albufeira. Praia da Marinha, near Lagoa is named one of Europe’s finest beaches every year. Those looking to combine a city trip with some fun by the ocean then head for the Costa de Prata. Portugal’s silver coast starts 150 km above Lisbon and stretches all the way to Porto. The resorts of Aveiro and Peniche have some stunning beaches, close to your campsite, but without the crowds that the big city beaches attract. Surfers are in for a treat in Foz de Lizandro, just outside Ericeira. It has some of Europe’s most excellent surf.

Great trips for all the family from your campsite

If you’re staying at a campsite on the Algarve or near Porto and Lisbon, there are plenty of fun things to do with the kids. A visit to the Zoomarine Algarve in Guia is a must. Have fun watching the dolphins and sealions, laze on the beach, whizz down the waterslides then enjoy a relaxing picnic on the beautiful lawns. Thrill seekers head for the Aquashow Park in Quarteira. It’s got a rollercoaster waterslide and a great restaurant! When in Porto, visit Magikland amusement park in Penafiel. It’s a fantasy world where kids can climb pirate ships, fly over African Savannahs and walk through enchanted forests. Ever been on a bus….on the water? Well in Lisbon you can! Hippotrip is a fantastic city tour that takes place both on dry land and on the river with an amphibious bus. For a gentler pace, go to Lisbon’s famous zoo. One of Europe’s finest!
