Once this has been purchased your vehicle registration number is acknowledged and put into the computer system. This is also explained on the certificate. You can buy the e-vignet at petrol stations.
Germany
If you are planning to visit any German cities by car it is advisable to check if you need an environmental sticker. Click here for an overview of the cities where you will require this environmental sticker:
http://gis.uba.de/website/umweltzonen/umweltzonen.php
Several of the larger German cities have had allocated environmental zones (Umweltzones) since the beginning of 2008. It is only permitted to drive in these zones if a environmental sticker has been placed on the windscreen of your vehicle. The colour of the sticker is dependant on your car's exhaust emissions. The green sticker is for petrol cars made after 31/12/1992 and diesel cars made after 31/12/2005. The yellow sticker is for diesel cars made between 31/12/2000 and 1/1/2006 and the red sticker is for diesel cars made between 31/12/1996 and 1/1/2001.
There are large signs on acess roads that show which sticker is allowed in the city. Please pay special attention to these signs, especially if you are driving an old diesel car or van as the penalties can be high.
Please be aware that, even if you have no plans to drive through an 'Umweltzone', sometimes a road divertion may lead through a zone so you may require a sticker nevertheless.
The environment stickers are valid for all vehicles with the exception of motorbikes and mopeds. The stickers can be purchased at the German vehicle inspection authorities TÜV and DEKRA. -
What travel tips do I need to know when travelling abroad?
In Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Italy, Spain, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia it is vital to have a security vest and a first aid kit in your car. People leaving the car have to wear the security vest in many of these countries. This is now obligatory in more European countries, so we strongly advise you to buy a security vest and first aid kit and have these in your car where you travel. In addition, take a spare pair of glasses in case of emergencies Further information about safety rules are available at the tourists office and/or embassy of the country concerned.
