Outdoor enthusiasts head for the Morvan Regional Park or glide along waterways on charming canal boats. Cycle or hike from your campsite through picturesque landscapes filled with rolling hills, winding rivers and fields covered in bright yellow flowers. Then relax back on your campsite veranda with a chilled glass of Chablis, as the smell of boeuf bourguignon floats enticingly from the kitchen. Ah….’ La vie est belle!’

      Burgundy is set deep in the heart of the delightful French countryside, however those looking for fun on the water near the campsite will not be disappointed. Head for the river Saône to cool off from the summer sun. This majestic river flows right through Burgundy. Looking for a lovely lake to splash about in? Go to the the Morvan Regional Park and take your pick from the popular Setton Lake, set right in the heart of a forest, Chaumecon Lake and the more tranquil Panneciere Lake. Another great spot to take a dip is Lake Columbier near Anse. Pack a picnic and some tasty local Vin for a wonderful day by the water!

      Burgundy has some lovely cities for you to visit close to your campsite. Dijon. Famed for its mustard, but also home to the Musée des Beaux-Arts, one of France's oldest art museums, the elegant Palace of the Dukes and the 13th century gothic Church of Notre-Dame. Further north lies Auxerre. Stroll through its old town, past creaking timber-framed houses, to admire the Abbaye Saint-Germain and its beautiful Romanesque Bell Tower. Chardonnay lovers head for Mâcon. Sit down at a terrace by the river Saône to enjoy the ultimate Burgundian wine experience. Fancy a river cruise? Then visit Chalon-sur-Saône, the city where photography was invented. It’s pretty as a picture and filled with perfect places to enjoy a long, lazy lunch.

Clos de Vougeot, Meursault, Montrachet and Nuits Saint Georges are all in the Beaune area. While there , see the magnificent medieval hospices buildings. The houses of Chablis, famed for its white wines, lie further north near Auxerre. As does the 16th century Château de Tanlay, a gorgeous example of French Renaissance architecture. Fancy seeing the area by boat? Go on a barge down Canal de Bourgogne or Canal du Nivernais. Art lovers head for Vézelay , for the lovely galleries and impressive art collection in the Musée Zervos. Want to see how monks lived 800 years ago? Then visit the 12th century Abbaye de Fontenay in Montbard, a unique ancient Burgundian monastery.
