Some tips for your holiday at Camping L'Orée du Bois in Les Mathes
- Want to visit a pleasant town close by? Then head for La Palmyre (6 km). There is always something to do there. With cafés, restaurants, lots of shops and a very nice zoo. And there's a beautiful sandy beach too.
- Great fun for all the family: a bike ride on the Vélodysée path to the lighthouse of La Coubre (8 km). Once you're at the top, hold on tight: that 360-degree view will really blow your socks off.
- Royan (20 km) is a stylish seaside resort with historic Belle Epoque villas, one more opulent than the other. A fun activity here: stroll along the promenade and sit down at a terraced bar with a sea view.
- Another nice idea: the 45-minute boat trip to the ancient lighthouse of Cordouan, on a sandbank off the coast of Royan. This Renaissance-style showpiece is still working.
- That perfect day trip: a drive to Ile d'Oléron (20 km), an island with sandy beaches, friendly towns and a fun tourist train for the children to ride on.
- The most romantic spot on the west coast is probably La Rochelle (70 km). Within the old ramparts, shops, bistros and boutiques compete for your attention. The children will also enjoy themselves here. They wont believe their eyes in the sea aquarium.
- The fortified town of Brouage (22 km) with its 17th century city walls is a chunky square of 400 by 400 metres. On your way you'll pass the oyster beds at Marennes. Time for a tasty lunch?
