Le Barcarès is a well-known seaside resort on a narrow strip of land between the large Salt Lake of Salses-Leucate and the Mediterranean. A mecca for water sports and sun lovers alike. Camping Les Tamaris is south of the resort, within walking distance of the start of the 8 km Le Barcarès beach. At "La Grand Plage" you’ll find an old Spanish steamship called Le Lydia, which ran aground many years ago, now there’s a casino, museum and restaurant on board.

    • Good food and plenty of shopping around the corner! Stroll around Le Barcarès pleasant town centre and nearby Port Barcarès. Admire old fisherman's houses and buy freshly caught fish at the market.
    • Visit Sigean Safari park, about a 30 min drive away. Once there you’ll feel you’re in Africa with more than 3,800 animals, birds and mammals there. From ostriches to leopards, from crocodiles to giraffes.
    • Let the kids test themselves at Leucate tree climbing park, 11 km away.
    • Explore the imposing Fortress of Salses 18 km away. The Spanish king once held sway here.
    • Treat the kids to a spectacular day out at Aqualand Port Leucate. This mega waterpark is only 10 miles away. With water slides, playgrounds, and pools for all ages!
    • For a taste of Catalan culture while still in France visit Perpignan (25 km). Its beautiful old quarter and cosy streets await. The medieval Palace of the Kings of Mallorca, the cathedral and the bustling Saint Jean district are a must-see.
    • Take surfing lessons at the nearby town of Leucate. Or rent a bike at the campsite and discover the many beautifully landscaped cycle paths nearby.
