Well-known sights
Rijksmuseum
It took 10 years before the Rijksmuseum was completely rebuilt and restored. The museum went through a total transformation of both the building and its art collection. The result is a stunning museum with masterpieces of which ‘De Nachtwacht’ by Rembrandt is probably the best known. However ‘ Het melkmeisje’ by Vermeer and the self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh are also on display here. You can easily take a day or more if you want to see it all.

Artis zoo
In the heart of Amsterdam you will find the oldest zoo in Holland, Artis. Through the years this zoo has expanded in a big way and so nowadays you can visit the apes in the ape house, but also make a small world tour through the African savanne, South-American pampa, the desert and the rain forest. All with their original habitats, of course. Try to be there at feeding time as the the keepers usually add a very interesting commentary.
Shopping in Amsterdam
P.C. Hooft Street
The P.C Hooft Street is the most expensive street in Holland. It is home to shops of the famous fashion houses like Chanel, Prada and Louis Vuitton - you'll need a full wallet though. However it's fun, and lots cheaper, to do a round of window shopping and head for a terrace afterwards. Who knows, maybe you'll spot the paperazzi in the bushes or even a famous person for yourself.
Eating in Amsterdam
The number of restaurants in Amsterdam is huge! Almost every type of world cuisine is represented and you will always find something in every price range. Famous restaurants are Loetje, with the best steaks in Holland, Nam Kee (for its oysters) and the Okura where you can enjoy Japanese food at a Michelin star level. Typical in today's world, there are the many restaurants where you can enjoy an organic and/or vegetarian meal. Usually very fresh and delicious too.
