City trip to Paris
Paris
The capital of France is the city of love and is the perfect destination for a city trip. There is so much to see in Paris that one day won't be enough to discover everything. Wander through world famous museums such as the Louvre, Musée d'Orsay and Centre Pompidou, shop at the most exclusive fashion stores, enjoy a few hours at the biggest flea market in France and of course enjoy the delicious Parisian food.
If you are traveling with kids, then they too can have a great time. There are great carousels in the centre of the city and many of the gardens and parks have playgrounds. On the outskirts of Paris there are several zoos and amusement parks, Disneyland Paris being the most famous of course.

Travel information for Paris
Flying to Paris is also an option. The two biggest airports are Charles de Gaulle, 63km from Le Chêne Gris and Orly, 62km. The train stops in front of the campsite to take you to the heart of Paris within 50 minutes.
Well-known sights
Eiffel tower
When you visit Paris, you can't miss this famous tower. The tower is 324 meters high, made of more than 7 million kilograms of steel. It attracts more than 6 million visitors each year. The tower has been the symbol of Paris since 1889. When it was first built, the Eiffel tower was the highest building in the world. Interestingly the steel shrinks when it is very cold so during the winter the Eiffel tower can be is 15cm shorter than in the summer.
Montmartre and Sacré Coeur
If you want to discover the real Paris then a visit to Montmartre is highly recommended. This is the art district and is bustling 24 hours a day. Have your portrait sketched in Place du Tertre (or just watch others being done), wander through the small streets with lovely boutiques, you might be tempted by sweet treats from the amazing patisseries. Right next to Place du Tertre is Sacré Coeur, one of the most beautiful basilicas in the world. On the steps that lead up to the basilica you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the city.
Paris with children
Aquarium Paris
A visit to the Aquarium Paris will be great fun for all. The Aquarium has more than 40 fish tanks with over 500 different species from all over the world. There are also shows too see, as well as three cinema halls which show interesting films for everyone to enjoy. There is even a dedicated workshop for children. If you can, visit the aquarium during the week as it’s very busy at the weekends.

Disneyland® Paris
A magical fairy tale world and a true paradise for children. Enjoy days of adventure, exciting attractions and great shows. Disneyland Paris is the best known theme park in Europe and is made up of two parts, the fairy tale park Disneyland® Park and movie park Walt Disney Studios®. The parks are right next to each other. Disneyland® Paris is just 25km from our campsite Le Chêne Gris, a 20 minute drive.
Shopping in Paris
Galeries Lafayette
Since 1893 it's been the department store for fashion. In its three buildings you can find everything you need, be it fashion, perfume, homeware, toys, cosmetics, wines and more. The building alone is worth a visit because of the beautiful art-deco style interior and the glass dome on top of the building. The terrace on the 2nd floor offers you a great view of Paris, so take your seat and enjoy a café au lait. There are free fashion shows every Friday at 15:00 between Easter and October.
Marché aux Puces de Clignancourt
Without a doubt this will be one of the biggest flea markets you have ever seen. The market consists of as many as 13 separate markets, both outdoor and indoor. And what’s for sale? Well everything under the sun - from jewellery to antiques, vintage clothes to furniture. If you want a break from all the shopping then you can relax in one of the many cafés or restaurants. You can get a map of the entire market at the tourist offices, which will come in very handy as it's easy to get lost.
Eating in Paris
Some say restaurants were invented in Paris. You can find hundreds of them there; from very luxurious star-rated restaurants, to bistros and cafés. You can order everything from a simple dish to a gourmet experience, whatever you like. You can find cuisines from all over the world in Paris
Eating with children
There are several well-known food chains that are perfect for children. You can choose from fast food restaurants, Italian restaurants with delicious pizzas and of course the famous creperies. Of course you can also enjoy delicious croissants and “pain au chocolat”. Relax in one of the many gardens or parks and enjoy a picnic sur l’herbe!
Some tips about eating and drinking in Paris:
- Bear in mind that drinks are more expensive to have outside on the terrace than inside.
- There are wide price differences for food in Paris so always check the menu in advance so you won't get a nasty surprise when you get the bill.
- Parisians generally have dinner late in the evening so keep in mind that many places don't open until 19.00.
