Some tips for your holiday at Camping Urban Gardens Gent in Gent

    • History fan? The old centre is a candy store of the times. The stories splash off the buildings. Eye-catchers: the Belfry with the Cloth Hall, the Gothic Saint Bavo Cathedral and the Gravensteen, the imposing castle in the heart of the city.
    • Best panoramic spot: Sint-Michielsbridge. Here you have a 360-degree view of the Middle Ages. The people passing by are from now, otherwise you could think you’re only seeing 'then'.
    • The place where you can process your first impressions with a sigh: the Graslei and Korenlei. Boats lapping over the slates (canals). Historic buildings reflected in the water. Take a seat, with your face in the sun, and your legs dangling over the quay.
    • Not to be missed: the world-famous masterpiece, “The Mystic Lamb”, by the Van Eyck brothers. You can admire this painting consisting of 18 large panels in St Bavo's Cathedral. You're only going to see 17 panels there. Two panels were stolen in 1934. One panel was recovered, the other is still missing.
    • And then the museums. There are dozens of them. Best known: the SMAK (museum for contemporary art) and the STAM, the city museum where you can experience four centuries of Ghent in an interactive way.
    • Shopping? You’ll find plenty of gift shops for yourself: designer shops, trendy boutiques, flea markets, shelters for rare second-hand books, crazy, stuffed shops where you feel like you’re rummaging through an old attic. Naturally, all the big names and brands are also present in Ghent.
    • When the sun goes down, the lanterns go on in Ghent. In the evening, the centre changes into a twinkling light landscape. Squares and buildings are bathed in a play of light and shadow. Get ready for Ghent by night.
    • Eating out or going out for the night? The streets and squares are packed with top gastronomic addresses, award-winning veggie restaurants, cultural centres, cocktail bars, and pubs of all colours. There’s even a beer boat.
    • In July, the city is steaming with the ’Gentse Feesten’. Ten days of (mostly free) live music, street theatre and exuberant activities. One of the largest cultural festivals in Europe.
    • Nearest airport: Brussels (BRU) at 70 km
    • Train station: 3 km
