The Vendée is a true paradise for beach lovers. It has over 140 km of sandy beaches to choose from. From the hustle and bustle of the glitzy popular resorts of Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Les Sables-d'Olonne, to the more tranquil beaches of Bretignolles-sur-Mer or Jard-sur-Mer. Looking for a more Mediterranean feel and some busy nightlife? Then head for La Tranche sur Mer with its 8km of fine sandy beaches. Want to combine a day by the sea with some fine dining? Then visit the lovely port town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. It has 4 beaches and a huge choice of excellent restaurants to enjoy a long lazy lunch. Just a few km north lie the family friendly beaches of Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, with lots of activities for children. Surfers head south for the waves at Les Conches or La Terrière. No matter where you are staying in the Vendée, there is always a beautiful beach not far from your campsite!
Outdoor activities near your campsite in The Vendée
The Vendée is cycling heaven and has the largest network of cycle tracks in France, with over 1,100 kilometres of sign-posted routes. Jump on your bike at your campsite and ride past stunning sand dunes, beautiful beaches, wonderful wetlands and the picturesque towns that litter the coastline. Watersport’s enthusiasts can take to the seas for swimming, surfing, windsurfing, sea kayaking and sailing. For a great day out in the Vendée hire a boat and do some sea fishing. Nature lovers head for one of the largest wetlands in France, the Marais Poitevin, to ride a flatboat across the Green Venice of the region. You might get lucky and spot a kingfisher or deer. Want to go horse riding? Then head for the forest between Le Pissot and Notre Dame-de-Riez. With such stunning scenery just outside your door there’s always something fun to do close to your campsite.
City trip near your campsite in The Vendée
There are lots of interesting places to visit in The Vendée not far from your campsite. La Roche-sur-Yon is the largest town in the region and was designed by Napoleon himself. Sweet tooths visit its chocolate museum run by the famous Gelencser family. Equestrian fans head for the prestigious Le Haras de la Vendée stud farm. End the day with a lovely horse-drawn tour of the town. Challans is the food capital of the Vendée and world famous for its duck. Stroll through the pretty town centre and then take your pick from one of the many excellent restaurants for the best Canard you’ll ever taste! The old market town of Les Herbiers in the north east corner of the Vendée is the perfect place to treat the kids to a lovely day out. The Puy du Fou theme park is just a few km away and the incredible steam train ride at Mortagne-sur-Sevre just 10 minutes further. When camping in the north of the Vendée, the impressive city of Nantes is well worth a visit. Admire the amazing ode to the creations of Jules Vernes at the Les Machines de L'Ile. It’s a great combination of art, technology and fantasy.
Things to see and do near the campsite in The Vendée
The beaches near your campsite are of course a big attraction in the Vendée. Les Sables d'Olonne is a great place to combine a day by the water with some great shopping and excellent seafood. The pretty port town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is also a must see. For extra adventure take the ferry there to the beautiful little island of Île d'Yeu, with its soft sandy beaches, dunes and lush, green pine forests. The Vendée is duck capital of France, so visit the charming town of Challans to savour the tasty local delicacy Canard de Challans. Want to spoil the kids and give them a thrilling history lesson? Head for the Puy du Fou theme park in Les Epesses. It stages spectacular history shows featuring famous characters from Roman gladiators to King Arthur, with special effects Hollywood would be proud of. Fancy some real Vendée wine to take back to the campsite? Head south to Brem-sur-Mer and taste why this region’s wine is so popular!
