Camping L'Ecrin du Lac

Camping l'Ecrin du Lac is a small, basic family campsite set between Provence and the Alps, beautifully situated right by Serre-Ponçon Lake. It’s heaven for nature lovers and those looking for an active outdoor holiday full of water sports, biking and lovely scenic walks. It’s a great base for exploring the stunning surroundings and a lovely spot for a family camping holiday.

Surroundings

Chorges is a large village in the Hautes-Alpes region of France, situated right next to Serre Ponçon lake and on the edge of the Ecrins National Park. The lovely town of gap is just 19 km away and the medieval town of Embrun 17km away.

Some tips for your holiday at L'Ecrin du Lac in Chorges

  • Feel like a day out close to the campsite? Then visit the town of Chorges, just a 5 minute drive away. See the 12th century old Saint Victor church, stroll the narrow, cobbled streets past quaint little shops. Then stop for a long. Lazy lunch.
  • For a little culture and history head to the lovely old town of Gap (19km). Visit the Muséum Départemental des Hautes-Alpes and learn all about the art, history, archaeology and traditions of the Hautes-Alpes. Tip: Stop at 17-19 Rue de France. The former Auberge Marchand, where Napoleon stayed during his return from exile on Elba.
  • Visit the ancient fortress town of Embrun, known as the "Nice of the Alps", due to its pleasant climate. Explore its maze of streets and alleys and admire the 12th century Abbey Boscodon and Notre Dame du Réal Cathedral.
  • Water sports lovers take to Serre-Ponçon Lake and go rowing, kite surfing, boating, jet skiing or water skiing nearby the campsite.
  • Looking for some real adventure? Then head for the National nature park of Ecrins ( 3km) and go hiking, climbing or wild water rafting. Alternatively take it a little easier and discover the rich array of wildlife in the park. Spot Golden eagles, griffons and wild Alpine Alpine ibex goats.
  • For that ultimate holiday snap go to the charming little village of Le Sauze-du-Lac (34km) on the other side of Serre-Ponçon Lake and get the best view across the Lake.
  • While in Le Sauze-du-Lac treat the kids to a great afternoon in the Animal park there. See Eagles, owls, hawks, vultures, storks, marmots, foxes, Saarloos wolf dogs. Children can walk around the kids farm with chickens, ducks, sheep, donkey and goats and pet small rabbits and guinea pigs. Mum and dad can relax and enjoy a coffee and snack in the restaurant.
  • Nearest airport: Grenoble (GNB) at 120 km
