Some tips for your holiday at Camping Les Charmettes in Les Mathes
- La Palmyre Zoo is a great zoo, just 5km from the campsite. There are more than 1,600 animals housed there, from small and cute to large and dangerous. The giraffes will eat right out of your hand.
- Just around the corner is Luan Park, a carnival of crazy attractions. Daredevils take note! If you would rather keep both feet on the ground, you can still enjoy the spectacular fireworks show.
- The bustling fishing port of Royan, capital of the Cote de Beaute is a lovely spot. If you go in late July then you can be a free spectator of the renowned classical music festival on the beach.
- Another must-see is the historical coastal town of La Rochelle. The old harbour, Vieux Port, and the sturdy fortress make you will feel as if you are in the middle ages. The centre is a maze of cosy streets lined with boutiques.
- Tip for kids: The sea aquarium, also in La Rochelle, is one of the best and biggest in France.
- Jump in the car for a day of island hopping. Drive over the bridge at La Rochelle to Ile de Re or enjoy the maritime experience at Ile Oleron. You can also take a boat trip to Fort Boyard.
