    Some tips for your holiday at Camping Mer et Soleil d'Oléron in Saint-Georges-d'Oléron

    • You can spot the famous Fort Boyard from the beach. You can see the fort, which is known from the television program of the same name, even better from the boat. Several tours depart daily from Rochefort and La Rochelle.
    • La Rochelle? Plan a day out to this bustling seaside resort. You can cool off in Jardin des Plantes and enjoy French specialties in the market hall. And with a satisfied feeling you stroll along the idyllic boulevard with the stately sand-coloured buildings as a backdrop.
    • Ile d'Aix is the "real" island in Charente-Maritime. The neighbouring islands, like Île d'Oléron, are connected to the mainland by a bridge. There’s a daily ferry service to the island from Fouras. Ile d'Aix has a special history thanks to Napoleon and the British navy. The emperor spent time here after the defeat at Waterloo in 1815, after which he was transferred to Saint Helena for exile.
    • Park the car (or bicycle) at the northernmost tip of the island. To Chassiron lighthouse, to be exact. From the rocky cliff you have a special view of the Pertuis d'Antioche, a large part of the island and the mainland.
