Family Camping fun by a lake in the Pyrenees
When camping near Seissan in the Pyrenees head for Lake Gimone in Saint Blancard (24 km) to cool off. This clean and popular lake has a free monitored swimming area and you can go boating, windsurfing, sailing or rent a pedalo, This lovely lake also has a picnic area and a delightful area for kids to play. If you’re camping by Agos-Vidalos or Luz-Saint-Sauveur, then you’ll need to go into the Pyrénées National Park to find some water fun. Put on your hiking boots and explore this incredible nature area and you’ll be rewarded with some real aquatic treasure, surrounded by some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Pyrenees you’ll ever encounter. From the remote Lac d’Estaing and Les Laquettes, to the idyllic, smaller Lacs de Bastan and the wonderfall waterfall of the Cascade de l’Artigue.

Daredevils can go rafting, rock climbing and canyoning. For a more tranquil affair bring your rod and catch your own supper or go for a gentle ride on a horse through the magnificent wilderness. Racing cyclists have a blast here with plenty of road routes to choose from close to your campsite. Ride up gentle slopes or challenging Cols while enjoying the stunning scenery around you. City trip near your campsite in the Pyrenees
There are only a few major towns relatively close to the campsites in the Pyrenees. The 2 main ones are Toulouse (60 mins away) and Montauban (90 mins away). Toulouse is one of the most beautiful cities in France. Walk across the majestic Place du Capitole to admire the fabulous city hall and opera house. Let the kids play at being astronauts in the amazing Cité de l’Espace museum and see replicas of the famous Ariane 5 rocket and MIR space station. Then stroll along the banks of the River Garonne and stop for a lazy lunch with the most beautiful view of the city. Art lovers head for the oldest historical bastide town in France, Montauban. See the marvelous 18th century masterpieces of Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres at the Ingres Museum. For a fun time for all the family go to the wonderful Natural History and Prehistory Museum. Finish your day at one of the many excellent restaurants on the historical Place Nationale and sip your Gaillac slowly as the sun sets on another lovely day!
Things to see and do near the campsite in the Pyrenees
There’s a lot of culture and history to admire when you camp in the French Pyrenees. Such as the extremely popular town of Lourdes, famed for legendary, miraculous healings and a major place of pilgrimage. Visit the Sanctuaires Notre Dame de Lourdes, with its famous Grotto of Massabielle, Saint Bernadette's church and the beautiful Basilica of the Rosary. Interested in military history? Then go to Tarbes and stop at the Musee Massey which displays incredible uniforms and equipment of Hussar cavalrymen from the 18th century. Art lovers admire the wonderful tapestries at the 14th century Pau castle, once home to kings of France and Napoleon himself. Treat the kids to a fun day out near the campsite and take them to Parc Animalier Des Pyrenees in Ayzac-Ost. This low key and fun zoo allows you to walk amongst animals, such as goats, monkeys, birds, otters, vultures, Toucans and Flamingos!
