Some tips for your holiday at Camping Golden Sunset in Alissos

  • The city of Patras is the oldest city of the Peloponnese. Besides being an important modern port city, Patras is full of archaeological sites. Visit the Odeum archaeological museum, the castle, and the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. This beautiful neo-Byzantine basilica is the biggest church in the Balkans.
  • The 2880-metre-long Rio-Antirrio cable bridge is one of the longest cable bridges in the world. This engineering masterpiece takes you high above the sea, from the village of Rio near Patras to Antirrio on the Greek mainland. Because it’s a toll bridge, many Greeks ignore it. We say: go! Or at least take a picture of it. From the old fortress in Rio, you’ll have a top view of the bridge.
  • Spot the most beautiful beaches, from large golden yellow carpets to small, abandoned gems. The Peloponnese is surrounded by the sea and beach on all sides. The campsite organizes regular beach excursions.
  • See and hear Greek antiquity? Make your way to the ancient Epidaurus amphitheatre, where the acoustics are better than most modern concert halls. You can still attend performances there. From the highest places on the stone steps you get another gala show: the view of the mountains!
  • Impressive: the Corinth Canal, dug in 1883. A narrow passage 24 metres wide and 6 kilometres long. Here, large cargo ships navigate between the perpendicular rocks with incredible surgical precision. It's a wonder they don't get stuck. And a spectacle to behold.
  • Visit the ancient Greek city of Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games, which were held here for 1,000 years. The Olympic flame is still lit here.
  • A natural wonder: the caves and subterranean lakes of Kastria near Kalavrita. In this region, also visit the Mega Spilaio Monastery, built against the rocks.
  • In the Kalavrita area you can also board a historic mountain train that rattles its way through the rugged rocky landscape along deep ravines. Exciting.

  • Train station: 22 km
  • Bus station:22 km
