A camping holiday in Provence is an absolute delight. With many campsites near a river, lake or within driving distance from the French Riviera, there is always a lot of fun to be had by the water. Water sports lovers head for the campsites around Lake Verdon, to windsurf, canoe, raft and swim. Want some glitter and glamour? Then head slightly further afield to the bustling beaches of Cannes and Nice. Camping near Avignon? Then there’s plenty to do by the river or by the Etang de la Bonde lake in the Luberon nature reserve. Want a day out by the sea? Then visit the picturesque towns of Cassis, La Ciotat, Sanary or Bandol near Marseilles.
City trips from your campsite in Provence
Looking for a great city trip near your campsite? Then visit the ancient town of Avignon, famed for its stunning chapels and churches and the Palace of the Popes. Feeling thirsty? Stop off at the Côtes du Rhône vineyards nearby to get that perfect bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Spend an afternoon strolling the picturesque streets of Aix-en-Provence. See Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne’s studio and home. Then drop in at the local market to get some fabulous fresh food to take back to the campsite. Go to Nimes to admire the magnificent Roman amphitheatre, once home to fearless gladiators. The bright lights of Cannes and Nice lie a little further away along the French Riviera, but the drive is well worth it. Often overlooked, as their less glamorous cousin, Marseilles is definitely a must see when in the region. Head for the Vieux Port area of the city for some great shopping and the best bouillabaisse you will ever taste. Arles and Toulon are also delightful cities, perfect for a day out in beautiful Provence.
Outdoor Activities near your campsite in Provence
Provence has many outdoor activities close to your campsite. Hike through the pretty green countryside and cycle or mountain bike along one of the magnificent routes. Cowboys head for The Camargue nature reserve to trek through the area on its wonderful white horses? Daredevils go rock climbing or rafting in The Verdon Gorge river. For a gentler pace go canoeing or kayaking. Take the kids to a tree top adventure park for a day out they’ll never forget or go swimming, surrounded by some stunning scenery, at the delightful waterfalls of Sillans-la-Cascade.
Things to see and do near the campsite in Provence
Provence has some of the most beautiful villages in France. Visit the gorgeous village of L'Estaque, where Paul Cézanne lived and painted some of his most memorable work. Wander the Cobbled streets of Gordes, past the golden stone houses up to the the majestic 16th-century château for some lunch. Roussillon, Lacoste, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Ménerbes are also lovely places to spend a delightful day out. Antique lovers head for L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, near Avignon. With more than 300 outlets you can buy just about anything you can imagine. Want to spoil the kids? Then take them to the Village des Automates Park in Saint-Cannat. This amazing outdoor amusement park has old-fashioned motorized figures, a petting zoo & lots of fun rides for children.
